What advancements have been made?

Martian lab on wheels

NASA has developed a lab that makes exploring Mars more accessible and significantly expands the scope of research. Instead of being confined to a small area around a base, astronauts can now use a specialized vehicle to travel greater distances and safely return—eliminating the risks of traveling on foot.

This vehicle allows astronauts to remove their suits and travel comfortably while exploring the planet.

This advancement greatly enhances our ability to navigate Mars and also drives progress in fields like robotics, laboratory technology, and material science. Alongside the success of previous rover missions, it reinforces the idea that continued effort leads to continuous technological breakthroughs.

New astronaut suits

NASA and SpaceX have created new suits that are more lightweight and flexible, giving astronauts the capability to fulfill more tasks. SpaceX has used Kevlar and Nomex to create a more sleek look and lighter suit.

NASA’s suits are designed to be used anywhere in space, investing in our future of space travel and cultivation.

Silica Aerogel greenhouses

Silica Aerogel is a surprisingly common material, though it does cost a bit to produce. Aerogel can be found in packets like beef jerky or in new lunch boxes. Scientists have found it is an excellent insulator, and also lightweight, making it ideal for a Martian greenhouse. Using a glass greenhouse would be pointless as it wouldn’t keep the heat in, which is necessary, and it would weigh a lot, taking up unnecessary weight onboard the rocket.

Silica aerogel is going to implemented on Earth next. Not only is it an excellent insulator, but it is also environmentally friendly.

Overall, there will and have been many more advancements for Mars, including, but not limited to, a bioprinter for organs, inflatable heat shields, Optimus, and laser communication.

NASA has published 6 developments they have made, some mentioned on this page, and more. Additionally, they explain some of the science and physics behind it.

These developments aren’t just about exploring space for the sake of it—they often lead to technologies and knowledge that benefit everyday life here on Earth, from better materials to new ways of solving problems..
